Dr.Guttler’s Thyroid Patient Blog Post: New treatment FDA approved for Thyroid Eye disease TED.

Dr.Guttler’s comments:

1. The FDA approved treatment for eye disease.

2. Thyroid Eye Disease TED is a lesser-known condition that affects five times more American women than men.

3. The FDA approved an infusion called Teprotumumab  Tepezza in 2020.

4. Its the first drug created to take on this disease.

5. TED creates antibodies that can get stuck behind the eye.

6. The antibodies thicken the muscle and make your eyes bulge.

7. Fifty percent of people who have Graves Disease experience this as well.

8.Before Tepezza, doctors could treat the thyroid problem, but patients would still get stuck with the eye disease.

9. It essentially works to prevent those antibodies from stimulating that kind of inflammatory reaction behind the eye.

10.. When men get thyroid eye disease, it does end up being more severe.

11.Tepazza is a  landmark drug for both genders.

12.TED can affect not just your perception of yourself, your interaction with others, and your vision.

13. Most TED can be treated with conservative measure and do not need Tepazza in my experience.

14. Measures include sunglasses, eye drops, elevation of the head of the bed, and discontinue smoking.
