Four Years After RFA for Thyroid Nodules= 93% Reduction (Case Study of the week)

Large symptomatic solid benign thyroid nodules or ones with cosmetic problems were only treated in the past by surgery, or radioiodine ablation. Radioiodine left about  50% of the nodule. at best and has possible latent radiation effects in the future. Surgery is a major opeation with all that entails. RFA is an outpatient procedure with usually one visit for the therapy. This long term follow up paper shows the value of RFA with 93% shrinkage at 4 years and significant improvement in symptoms and cosmetic effects.Side effects, complications were minimal and there were no serious problems.
